Joint Replacement

Giving you a second chance when it comes to walking freely and pain free

Joint Replacement Surgery an overview

Joint replacement surgery is a procedure that replaces damaged joints in the body with artificial ones. It is an orthopedic treatment done when the degeneration of joints leads to loss of mobility, pain and even long-term disability.

Joint replacement surgery occurs due to the wear and tear on a joint over a long period of time. The joint may be dysfunctional due to worn out cartilage; it may cause pain and also reduces mobility, also because of the pain, inflammation, and swelling that is a consequence of Osteoarthritis.

Most Common Types of Joint Replacement Surgery

  1. Total Knee Replacement

  2. Total Hip Replacement

  3. Shoulder Joint Replacement

Total Knee Replacement

Total knee replacement is a procedure for replacing a damaged joint with an artificial one. It’s typically considered when pain, stiffness, and loss of function are interfering with your quality of life. Total knee replacement procedure can lead to a feeling of being normal, and able to do the things you want to do without any restrictions.

Total Hip Replacement

Total hip replacement is a surgical procedure in which the diseased cartilage and bone of the hip joint is removed and replaced with artificial materials. When you have a hip replacement, the end of your thighbone (femur) and the cup-shaped socket within your pelvis (acetabulum) are reshaped to allow for smooth movement. In a total hip replacement, both the femur and acetabulum are replaced with man-made materials. A dislocated femoral component can loosen from the bone. The implant can also wear out prematurely, requiring another surgery.

Shoulder Joint Replacement

Shoulder joint replacement is a procedure where the damaged cartilage or worn out bone joint surface is replaced with an artificial implant. It is a surgical process and considered as a highly complicated procedure and thus very few of the centers carry out shoulder joint replacement surgeries.

As these are major surgeries, it is best recommended to choose a surgeon or hospital in person who has performed these kind of surgeries in the past.
